The project is for a startup company that is entirely web based, so their site is mission critical. The person would work at their office in Boise. The initial draft of the web site has been completed, but it's ready to be handed off to someone who can dedicate some time to it.
Do you know anyone who:
-- Is not a "yes man" who needs instruction in detail, but a self-starter who would take ownership of the design, enhancement, and support (and training and documentation) of a mission-critical web application.
-- Has experience in the full life-cycle of designing, developing, deploying, and supporting a web application.
-- ColdFusion experience optional if person has similar experience and is a quick self learner.
I'm looking for someone who has enough experience to be successful when working individually with the client, but this is also a great mentoring opportunity as he/she will be able to ask questions and learn from other members of Catalyst.
If you know of someone, please pass this on and have them contact me, thanks.

It seems to display correctly in Outlook, and Yahoo, but in MSN, the url either becomes a 'mailto', or some other link that doesn't work...... plus, in Hotmail/MSN, the system displays the link/http line with:

Does anyone have a solution for this? Its very frustrating......
Thanks!
One last time I just wanted to point out that CFUNITED is about one month away.
You can get more info at http://www.cfunited.com/. The current registration price is $849.00, but user group members get $50 off that.
I posted info on the home page about a special meeting we are holding on July 11th recapping the CFUNITED conference. We have at least 4 members of our group attending, and we are each going to share what we thought were the best sessions of the conference.
I haven't determined if this is my final schedule or not, but here is what I currently have set in my CFUNITED Schedule Manager (PDF).
Events that took place:
- Pizza arrived. We ate. Thanks for the donations to help cover the bill.
- I demoed using the open source Java project iText for PDF generation. iText is an easy to use free object you can use just by dropping a JAR file into your ColdFusion MX /lib/ directory and restarting the CF service. Here is a link to a blog entry from a buddy and former co-worker of mine Aaron Johnson on creating PDFs from scratch with ColdFusion and iText. And here is a link to an entry I just posted to my personal blog with the source code and instructions on how to generate PDFs based from a template PDF after populating it with dynamic data.
One thing I want to point out here that I missed at the meeting is that CFMX 7 has a lot of PDF features missing in CFMX 6. Using something like iText is a *major* boost for any CFMX 6 environment (like I have running on my server), and a welcomed addition for CFMX 7 servers as well. - Rance demoed the newly released CF/FlexBuilder 2 App Gen Wizard that Adobe offers as a free download from their Adobe Labs web site. This is an Eclipse plug-in that will walk you through the steps of connecting to your database via ColdFusion's RDS service. You simply define the pages you want within your app and specify the tables/columns that supply the data for these pages and then the generator does its voodoo magic and generates a complete functional Flex app built in a MVC framework. Rance says that you must watch the 12 minute video demo that Dean Harmon offers here.
- We held our bi-annual Adobe software drawing and after I fought to not eliminate those of you from the group who were not in attendance tonight (your welcome), the unlikely happened and my name was pulled from the pot and I claimed the software drawing for the 3rd time in a row. The first time I won I only had the choice between Macromedia Studio or ColdFusion Professional... With the Adobe merger the software selection is much larger and it is definitely a great prize to win.
Winning for the 3rd straight time, pitch forks were drawn... but it was all in good fun (I think). I want everyone in the group who doesn't make it out to all the meetings to understand how the drawing works so no one is out of the loop. Each meeting you attend gets you a slip with your name on it in a pot. If you attend six meetings you will have six slips in the pot at the time we hold the drawing, if you attend once you will have one slip, and if you don't make it out at all... Well you can do the math on that one. The software drawings are held twice a year, once during the summer and then again in December. So if you haven't been attending and you want some sweet Adobe software like the Video Bundle I previously picked up, you must start attending. - We would love to have more people present on related topics as well - new comers and old timers - this is where I think the Developer Group can be most beneficial.
- Next up we had the ColdFusion coding challenge. Jake, Rance, and I put ourselves out there and each participated by spending about 10 or 15 minutes coding from scratch a page that could take a random integer between 1 and 9999 and convert it to a written out text string. For example: 5421 would convert to "Five thousand four hundred and twenty one". Jake had the best (and quickest) approach, I had a sloppy (but working) approach, and Rance opted to not reveal his source code to the group but gets an honorable mention for trying. In all fairness, Jake and I had previously discussed the idea for the challenge and had a very unfair advantage.
The main part of the challenge came next when we reviewed and dissected the code. Jake and I both opted to use CASE/SWITCH statements and User Defines Functions to get the heavy lifting done. We also based all our logic around the Length of the number. Rance however based his logic on the number's value using GT and LT. This approach ultimately was the wisest (and looking back on it now it was the most logical, kinda funny that 2 of the 3 of us chose the illogical approach). To compensate for my mistake I had to add an extra function that cleaned up bad cases like "twoty" with "twenty" and "ten eight" with "eighteen". And Jake later found a bug that his code would also produce bad strings like "ten eight" which he promptly fixed by evaluating the number with a GT/LT.
The challenge brought out exactly what we had aimed for, showing some diversity in how to handle a task, showing how rapidly you can attack a challenge in ColdFusion, and best of all it pointed at what could possibly be the best method for a solution. Oh yea, it was fun too.
Here is my source code (and here is it in action), I hope Jake and Rance post theirs as well.
As a funny side note, while we rapidly churned out our ColdFusion code Mike accessed his server and downloaded a 17 year old stored procedure from his library that handled our challenge and more (it handled numbers up into the millions and two decimal places). He whipped up a CFSTOREDPROC to get the result as well.
Great work from everyone. Our next challenge will be handled differently. The criteria will be posted on the blog prior to the meeting so everyone will have at least two weeks to find time to participate - the challenges will still be simple though - then you can bring your source on a USB drive and run it or have it available on the web to run. - Our last topic was CFUNITED. CFUNITED is the largest ColdFusion conference and it is taking place in Washington DC from June 27th to July 1st. At least 4 members of our group are confirmed going this year and registration is still open for any others that are interested. Check out CFUNITED's web site for more info.
Friday June 30th in DC we are going to have a meet up and go see the new Superman Returns movie. If you are attending the conference you should join us.
We will be having our next meeting on Tuesday July 11th recapping CFUNITED while it is still fresh in our heads. Look for the invite for that in the future.
If you have anything else to add regarding tonight's meeting or any other subjects please use the blog to do so.

http://www.boisecodecamp.org/sessions/schedule/
The Code Camp is a free event, all you have to do is register here: http://www.boisecodecamp.org/about/register/
The event has over 30 sessions ranging from Web Development, to Databases, to Lego Mindstorm programming.
Two members of our group are speaking. Jake Munson is doing a session on AJAX (From hype to reality) at 9:00 AM. And I (Erik Goodlad) am doing an Intro To ColdFusion session at
2:30 PM and another session on AJAX at 4:00 PM.
There will be free donuts in the morning, and free pizza for lunch - as well as a bunch (over 150) of prizes being handed out.
Please come if you can, and spread the word to any of those who you work with that might be interested. It would be great to get a good crowd there.
Again, the whole event is free. I'm missing snowboarding for this.
We discussed the future of the group now that Adobe has purchased Macromedia, and we decided that we are going to transition back to a ColdFusion only group. We can't be all that useful at supporting the entire Adobe product line. If anyone knows of other groups in the area for other Adobe products, please share info here and we will provide links on our site.
We also are going to transition to the domain http://www.cfidaho.org/.
Adobe has upped the prizes we can hand out at our meetings. We can give out 2 prize packages per year, each with a value of $2100 or less from anything from the Adobe product store. I scored the Adobe Video Bundle from winning last December's drawing. Our next drawing will be in June. Each meeting you attend earns you a slot in the drawing, so if you attend all meetings from Jan thru June you get six slips in the hat, where if you only attend in June you only get 1 slip.
We talked about Macs - there were more Mac owners at the meeting than non-Mac owners. I own both and I prefer Windows, so Mac still lose.
We talked about the upcoming Boise Code Camp. Jake and I are both speaking. It's a **FREE** event so everyone interested should attend. It's on Saturday Match 18th.
Jake and I will both be doing separate sessions talking about AJAX. Also, it's likely I will be doing an Introduction to ColdFusion session to show off how powerful and feature rich CF is to all the non-believers. And I am also pitching a session on MySQL - I love the free DB route - MS SQL Server is not always required and overkill for many developers.
Again - It's free. Here is a link to register: http://www.boisecodecamp.org/about/register/
If you have anything else to add about the meeting, please do.
Now I added a new site. Created the CFM page, uploaded it, but the required fields on a form isn't being checked. The problem was worked down (thanks to newsgroup help) that http://www.salleboise.com/CFIDE/scripts/cfform.js isn't available for that domain.
What do I need to do to get this working? In the Web Server config tool, it shows as being configured for all IIS sites....so I'm a little confused.
Anyone have any good ideas?
Thanks!
Steve
At the meeting, I said I thought the date was March 16th, but Paul said it was the 18th. Paul was right! :) The 18th is a Saturday, and the conference is expected to last most of the day.
So everybody should plan on at least attending, if not presenting. I am planning on presenting on Ajax and Regular Expressions. It would be great if someone from the group were to present on ColdFusion. Maybe 2 or 3 different ColdFusion topics would be good as well.

I'm Sam Swenson. New to the user's group. Happy to be here.
My company is planning on hosting a Macromedia Flex training course put on by Remote Site Training. We have a training facility / computer lab here in our office that can hold 18. We plan to fill 4 of the seats so that would leave 14 seats available for members of the user's group or other people you might want to inform about it.
I should be hearing back today from them regarding pricing (it should be considerably less than the retail price... hopefully, for the number of people we intend to have).
Feel free to either respond here or e-mail me if you would be interested in finding out more about it; pricing, schedule etc. Feel free to let others you know that may be interested in the course as well.
The course is: Macromedia Flex for Web Application Developers (4 days)
Location: Nampa, ID
Description
Macromedia Flex for Web Application Developers provides experienced web application developers hands-on, practical experience using Flex. This four day course gets developers up and running with the primary features of Flex that they will need to know in order to build a fully functional and well architected Rich Internet Application (RIA). The server-side functionality is written in ColdFusion.
Audience
This course is designed for experienced web application developers who want to bring the power of Rich Internet Applications to their web applications. To gain the most from this class, you should:
Have experience with a web application development language, such as ColdFusion, ActionScript, JavaScript, or some other web development language.
Be familiar with XML terminology.
Have an understanding of object-oriented programming terminology.
Thanks.
I'm using CFmail to send it, but it seens to send it very randomly. I can test it and sometimes it send it, other times it doesn't. In the CF server logs, when its not sent, there's no error in the mail log, and nothing in the mail sent log. On the mail server, there's no reference of it there either.
Has anyone had a problem like this before? Or can anyone suggest a direction to look?
Thanks,
Steve
Dan
It was also suggested that it be a not for profit project, but what does everyone think about working on a medium/large scale web project that is FOR profit?
That might be interesting as well! :)
Anywho.....just thought I would throw that out there...
It will be much quieter than Stubs, as we will be the only people there (after hours).
He said there they will be a soda fountain there that we are able to use.
Also, if you want to buy a sandwich you can call the store ahead of time and order it, and it will be there for you for the meeting.
You can check out their web site, including menu, at http://www.blueskybagels.com/
They have WiFi setup so if you want to bring your notebook, etc and access the Internet during the meeting to show off anything you can.
Does anyone have any particular subject they know that want to talk about in advance, or a presentation they want to give? Feel free to bring it up.
Hope to see everyone at the meeting.
If anyone is interested, maybe we can see what sort of ideas we can come up with for something to do.
Either drop me a note, or respond here and we can go from there.
I'll also try to make it to the next meeting as well....I think its in November, correct?
Thanks!
Steve
(sgrosz [at] computicle.com)
We welcomed 3 newcomers tonight: Mark, Tammye, and Dee. Glad you could make it.
I handed out some Macromedia goodies I picked up last week at MAX. For those not in attendence if you want a large wall poster with all the CFMX7 tags and functions, let me know, I have more left to hand out.
Speaking of functions, tonight I started a game "What function am I?" that I picked up from a guy I met at CF_Underground this month. He is a member of the Portland CF User Group and they do that in their meetings, I thought it was a good idea.
No one was able to guess the two functions: CompareNoCase() and ValueList() - though ValueList() was on the tip of Jake's tounge.
I spoke a little about MAX... if you want to read more about MAX 2005 or CF_Underground 7, I have posted re-caps of my days on my blog, you can read them here:
CF_Underground 7 2005 Round-Up
MAX 2005 Day 1
MAX 2005 Day 2
MAX 2005 Day 3
I have a little cleaning up to do on the entries, but mostly just adding links to items that should be linked.
We talked about "AJAX" again, which is a nickname for a method of using JavaScript to get new/live data from an external source (like a seperate ColdFusion page) and updating the current page without a refresh.
Here is the tutorial I 1st used to pick up the technique:
http://www.webpasties.com/xmlHttpRequest/
Jake had pointed out previously that there is a ColdFusion AJAX project called CFAjax. You might want to check that out.
If you read last month's meeting re-cap you can read about a checkout form example I did that is using AJAX for two items.
Again I tried to promote Mozilla Firefox, the world's best free browser. I demo'd two extensions: The Web Developer Toolbar and a new one I heard about at MAX Aardvark - which is a tool for dissecting web pages block by block.
Paul and I talked a bit on podcasts/vidcasts. Some of our favorites:
this WEEK in TECH
Security Now!
I like:
Command N
techPhile
Diggnation
There are literally hundreds of shows to choose from.
OK... again, if I missed anything, or if you have something else to contribute, please do.
Thanks to Rance and Ross at Patterson & Patterson for letting us use their office for our meeting.
We had three new members join us, and one old member that hadn't attended a meeting for several years. So welcome and welcome back.
We watched a recorded copy of the ColdFusion 10th Birthday presentation that Macromedia had broadcast live this past July 13th.
If you want to watch the Breeze presentation you can do so here: http://macromedia.breezecentral.com/p64775146/
I have tried to find where I downloaded the copy we watched in our meeting. If you are interested in getting a copy, let me know, I can burn it to a CD for you.
Topics discussed:
Firefox, the best browser out there, is even better for web development when you add extensions to it like the Web Developer extension, or Greasemonkey.
Grease monkey scripts I like:
Gmail Smart-Delete Button
Check Range
Google Maps Mousewheel Zooming
There is a whole lot more to choose from here.
AJAX (XMLHttpRequest) rocks. You can have a JavaScript function call a ColdFusion template and return data without the user ever needing to leave the page that they are currently on. This is how Google does Google Maps, and Google Suggest, as well as Gmail. I didn't get to show it off, but Google's custom home page also uses it.
Someone pointed out that there is a CFAjax project.
As for my own personal AJAX project, here is a sign-up form I am working on that I *tried* to locate to show off during our meeting, but I couldn't find the URL. There are two AJAX actions on this page. The e-mail address field checks to see if you are an existing customer - enter erik[at]macsales.com as the e-mail address (with a @ not [at]) to get the alert. The second action is the City/State drop down list is populated for the cities that match the zip code you enter. I am only pre-filling the zip code on the form to "13439" because it is a zip code that returns multiple cities. You can enter any zip code your want, you will get real results. Note: The form doesn't submit - it's just a prototype.
Rance showed off some sweet Macromedia Flex stuff with drag-and-drop. He can post the links to that if he wants.
For the heck of it here are some drag and drop CSS + JavaScript examples:
http://brothercake.com/site/resources/scripts/dbx/
http://tool-man.org/examples/sorting.html
Google's custom home page
For those who had never seen Macromedia Breeze before, Macromedia has several on-demand presentations you can watch, or you can sign up to attend one of their many presentations that cover topics about their products. You can also watch archived presentations here: http://www.macromedia.com/community/macrochats.html. There are some good ones about ColdFusion as well, check them out.
Next month's meeting is going to be on the 4th Tuesday because the 3rd Tuesday is during the Macromedia MAX conference (which I am attending). Rance and Jake both said that CFUNITED is the best ColdFusion conference. So next year I want to attend that. I am also attending CF_UNDERGROUND this year.
See you next month.
At tonight's meeting:
We talked about my infinite-add-edit-delete form and the various implementations I have used it on.
Rance showed me a project he is working on that heavily uses the new flash forms in ColdFusion MX7 and I have to say that my desire to use the flash forms (including the upgraded CFGRID) has increased dramatically.
I showed off some of the features of the web developer extension for the Firefox web browser.
I shared my experience with going through a small XMLHttpRequest tutorial today.
I can't remember what else... anyways my battery is gonna die (I am still at Stubs), so I will look-up any links and post them here for you to check out.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to show off the underlineing code.
I thought it would be nice at this month's meeting to be able to show off the code. But the app was really tailored for my needs, so I decided to make some modifications and create a more universal example, along with proper documentation on my approach.
What I have come up with is what I call The Infinite Add-Edit-Delete Form.
With a single save you can literally edit/delete/add as much data to a table as your heart desires. It's much quicker then working with data one record at a time.
I have posted a live working example, documentation, and source code for all to look at before our meeting next week.
Use the link below to check it out. And I am open to feedback.
Links: Infinite Add-Edit-Delete Form Documentation
Send resumes to: employment@matraex.com
We welcomed a new member to our group, Christelle, who took John Sullivan's ColdFusion MX course at ExecuTrain.
Paul and Mike each showed off some working samples of new features in ColdFusion MX 7. Mike's example showed how with just about 4 or 5 lines of code, you can turn an old 'n' busted HTML table into a hot 'n' fresh FlashPaper or PDF report. Paul showed the new feature within CFFORM, like applying a skin to a form, or using calendar controls.
If either of you (and others) want to post links to on-line examples that would be cool.
I demo'd a new site that I am still working on putting together to cover my weight loss after having the Gastric Bypass surgery last month. It's not completely active yet but it will be soon, the address it 12to18.org.
After that the meeting spiraled out of control the conversation was all over the place, here are some of the things discussed:
- the Firefox web browser
- Vinyl Record Collections
- Sub Pop Records
- 8 Tracks
- Google Maps (BETA)
- Amazon's A9 Yellow Pages with photo's of millions of store fronts
- Supersize Me
- Ketchup with real sugar not frutose syrup
- ColdFusion White Papers for comparing running CF on WebSphere
- Google Advertising Programs
I know I missed a ton, so if anyone else wants to point out anything about the meeting, please go ahead.
I think having Paul and Mike taking time to show off some working CF code bits was excellent, and with talking to Paul we want to include this at every meeting. So from here on out, each month any member of the group can volunteer to demo anything they are working on, front end or back, ColdFusion, JavaScript, XML, whatever.
Just incase anyone that missed last nights meeting wanted to know what happened, or if you were there but maybe wanted to comment further on what was discussed, I thought I would start an open entry here in our Group's blog.
Paul, John, Eric and I made it out to the meeting.
Paul showed off his new Toshiba widescreen notebook and Microsoft GPS unit.
A few things I mentioned during the night:
- JoelOnSoftware's guide on pricing your software.
- Skype (free app for PC to PC VoIP)
- Asterisk - The Open Source Linux PBX (software some friends and I are using to set up a private VoIP network)
- ImageZoomer (Firefox extension that adds context menu options to zoom in/out on any image)
- Apple MacMini (Apple's new mini computer, small enough to fit into your car's dashboard)
John (and I) went over some of the features in the upcoming release of ColdFusion. Macromedia's current product page is here: http://www.macromedia.com/software/coldfusion/blackstone/
There was some other talk about VoIP for residential use, and I can't remember the other companies mentioned, but I know Vonage was talked about (and their lack of ID area codes).
John and Eric bailed out early leaving Paul and I there to finish the night off. We showed off a few apps that might be presented on in a future meeting, and Paul gave me a tour of his Vietnam Veterans Hornets Homepage
Anyone and everyone, please feel free to comment . . .
Macromedia has a special promotion for 60% off the regular price. You can test locally here in Boise.
I have not taken the plung into getting certified, but now I think I am. Paul from the group recommends Ben Forta's Study Guide for the CFMX test.
I previously mentioned Certifiable as a nice Macromedia Central program to install. The trial version has both CFMX and Dreamweaver MX tests to take. I just spoke with the author and he said that taking these tests are not enough to solely use for preparing for the test. Ben Forta offeres a similar ColdFusion test on his site, though he comments that it is generally harder than the actual Macromedia test.

Flgtag means "flying day" in German, but more importantly, it's American for a bunch of creative geniuses strapping themselves to totally outrageous home-made, human powered flying machines and launching themselves off a 30-foot ramp into the wild blue yonder, or alternatively straight into the water.
For the first time, Flugtag will also be broadcast live over the Internet. Utilizing the interactive features of Flash Video and streaming through the Flash Video Streaming Service powered by VitalStream, viewers will be able to switch between camera angles of the event in real time. They will also be able to select from amongst a number of prerecorded video vignettes about the teams and the competitors. After the event, the video will be archived and available on-demand.
This will be the first large-scale implementation of the just-announced Live version of the Flash Video Streaming Service, powered by VitalStream.
